Busy Weekend

Man, I haven't had a weekend like that in a long time. Usually my weekends are relatively quiet, with maybe a coffee or a movie with friends one of the evenings. This weekend, I was barely home.

A friend of mine who used to live here and then moved to Calgary, Sean, came into town on Tuesday since one of his friends was getting married. He decided to spend 3 weeks in Montreal while giving some thought to moving back. On Thursday, when I got home, I got a call from him inviting me to go hang out with him and his friends down at the Old Port to watch the fireworks. Even though I was super-sleepy thanks to working last week and having bouts of insomnia, I went and had a great time. I was a little nervous since a) I didn't know any of his friends, and b) I hadn't seen Sean in 7 years.

As it turned out, it was a lot of fun. We all sat in the grass, drinking beer, chatting, and I found that his friends are really cool. I ended up going home kinda early, though, since my mom can't sleep until I'm home and she had to work the next day.

On Friday, Sean and I went for lunch at a restaurant near my house and then walked around a bit and sat in a park near my place while we waited for his friends to come pick him up. That was the quietest day, heh.

Saturday evening there was a BBQ at one of his friends places, and he and the guy he's staying with came and picked me up around five, and we hung out there while waiting to go over to the BBQ. It was a late supper, but really awesome to just sit around, drinking (more) beer. I chatted with the guy getting married for awhile - he has a government job in Ottawa and he was telling me about the incredible pay, the benefits and the fact that he works the same amount of hours I do. Anyway, he told me to go onto the government jobs website and took my email, promising to help me get a job. I'd have to move to Ottawa, at least for awhile, but seriously. The starting salary is $47K. Starting. And I think it's a bit more if you're bilingual.

That was a late night, especially since I had to wake up at a decent time on Sunday to get ready to be Sean's date for the wedding. Yeah. One of his friends was super-nice and lent me a couple of dresses to try on since Sean hadn't exactly given me a lot of notice (he asked me on Friday, heh), and I ended up wearing one of them. The wedding was really beautiful, and short and sweet, just how I like them. I only had a beer since I'd taken my car, but I had fun anyway. I ended up staying later than I'd intended, and it took me a long time to fall asleep last night, so I'm really struggling today (and it's only 9:01, sigh).

It's been a really good, but emotionally-charged weekend. I wasn't going to write about too much here since I'm not 100% sure if Sean reads this, but I've been pretty up-front with him so far anyway.

See, 7 years ago, he and I went out for a short time. Then he moved to Calgary and I didn't speak to him until some time last year when he found my sister's website and a picture of me. We only chatted a few times, and then all of a sudden he's back here in town and I spent at least part of every day this weekend with him, having an awesome time, and I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I won't go into detail, but allow me to say that there was some smooching goin' on :)

Which is great and all, but uh, yeah... he's going back to Calgary (which is far, for those of you who don't know Canadian geography very well) in 2 weeks, and he seems really torn about moving back here. I don't want to pressure him, especially since there aren't any guarantees, but it would be nice to see where things go. I suppose that's what we're doing, and maybe it's good that things are out of my control. It's totally up to him. I'm not a casual person, but maybe it wouldn't kill me to just relax and have fun, let the universe take care of things for once instead of me controlling everything.

Anyway, it's been an amazing weekend, and I don't regret a thing. I don't know if I'll see Sean during the week - definitely not tonight since I just can't wait to crawl back into bed :)

Hope you all had a good one!
