Easter Weekend

You know, all last week I couldn't wait until the weekend came. I had both Friday and Monday off since McGill is closed both days, but my mom only had Friday, so we headed up to Rawdon in the morning. I was so happy driving up because I knew I had 3 days to enjoy up there with my aunt and uncle from Ontario, two nights to sleep in my bed there - where I find I sleep the best. And then poof! The weekend was gone, it was Sunday, and we were heading back to the city. Sigh.

In any case, it was a great weekend. When my family from Ontario comes up, it's a weekend guaranteed to be filled with laughs and smiles. I did some work, but I knew I still had Monday and Tuesday to write my take-home that's due on Wednesday, so I also spent a lot of time chatting.

Saturday night, my nanny and I went to church. And it was my idea, if you can believe it. But I'd read about the service in the church bulletin the weekend before and it sounded really neat - it was the Easter Eve service, which takes place at 10pm and falls between the death of Jesus and his resurrection. The reason it sounded so appealing is because it's the oldest service of the church, and therefore also incorporates a lot of Jewish and pagan symbolism. Within minutes of the start of the service, we could see the pagan elements: the lights were all turned off so that we were left in darkness. The minister went just outside the church doors, put a metal bucket on top of a stool and started a blazing fire in it (which was met with a whispered closed-minded comment behind me - "He's going to smoke up the church!!" Big whoop). He said some words, and then lit the paschal candle from the fire, which then lit all of the candles that we were holding. So, it was another candle-lit service.

We were also re-baptized, hee. He put some holy water in a bowl, then dipped a palm leaf in it and whipped the water at us!! Since I was sitting by the aisle, I got a huge amount of it in my face. Maybe he thought that I really needed it :)

Anyway, it was a really neat ceremony, and I really enjoyed it. Of course, I would've enjoyed it more if I hadn't had a huge cup of coffee before going, which made me need to pee at the very start of it all. I really don't understand why they don't put bathrooms in the back of the church.

Sherry, George and Hayley came up on Sunday, early enough that we got to hang out with them before we headed back to Montreal. I can't believe how big Hayley is getting!! The four of us went for a walk in the afternoon since it was so incredibly warm and beautiful out; we went to a park - where I stupidly went on the swing which cuts into anyone's butt no matter how small or big they are, which has left me with a huge, disgusting, painful bruise on my right side; it was worth it though 'cause it's been forever since I've swung - and then we headed up a nice street that has a lot of really nice homes and a bunch of pine trees.

And then the excitement began. We got back and I went upstairs to finish packing while Sherry, George and Hayley stayed outside on the front porch. All of a sudden, I heard a loud crash and dragging noise, so I went to my window and saw a guy and his motorcycle lying on the ground across the street. I flew down the stairs and found out that a girl in a car had come out in front of him and he'd swerved to get out of the way, only to wipe out. The guy is okay, thank god, but Sherry called the cops and we all of course had to stay to find out what was going to happen.

So finally, we got the car packed, said our goodbyes, and came home. Now I'm working on my take-home exam, which is over half-written (I think, I hope), so tomorrow I'll probably be able to do some catch-up reading for my other two exams.
