Gathering

It was a pretty good weekend, although it went by WAY too quickly. Tomorrow it's back to the grind, and back to looking forward to the weekend.

I finally told my mom when I'm moving to Halifax on Saturday. I was going to do it on Friday, but I just didn't know how to bring it up other than blurting it out, and then I was just too freakin' tired to open myself up to a possible argument. So we were running errands on Saturday, and my mom actually opened it up for me. She said, "If you move to Halifax before Christmas, we'll have to bring the Christmas decoration boxes back upstairs before you go and I'll put them in your closet".

Bingo! I said, "Well, I'm moving in either March or April, depending on money, so yeah, we'll have to do that."

And, can you believe it, she didn't argue, she didn't cry, she just accepted it and we finished our errands without a huge amount of tension!! Now, when we came home, she had a little nap, so maybe she cried a bit then, but she didn't show it to me. I've talked about the move a lot this weekend, actually, and although I know she'd prefer I didn't go, I think she's pretty well accepted that I am.

Today we went shopping, and I bought a bunch of little things I need for the apartment. At the Dollarama, I got stuff like placemats, oven mitts, a lifter, serving spoons, more utensils, a broom, dustpan, laundry basket, etc. etc., all for about 30 bucks! We went to Rossy after, which is a great store with a bunch of different things like clothes, appliances, shoes, and so on, and I bought two small matching lamps for 10 bucks each and a 7-piece cookware set (pots and a skillet) for about $25.

Of course, I have NO idea where I'm going to put all this stuff in the meantime, but I'll figure something out - preferably before going to bed since a lot of the stuff is where I plan to sleep.

There are still a few things I need to get - like a blender! and shower curtains! - but I'm well on my way. Honestly, I think that April is the best time for me to go. For one thing, and most importantly, it gives me an extra month to make and save money. For another, it'll allow me a bit more time to see people I need to see before I go. Some people I see, well, relatively often, but others I haven't seen in years. That's not to mention organizing all my shit and figuring out if it's better to have professional movers take the stuff and I fly, or if I should rent a U-Haul and drive everything down (which I don't REALLY want to do, but it might be cheaper). And for a third, it's a lot more Spring-like in April, and (hopefully) the weather will be a bit better than it can be in March in Canada.

Everything really seems to be falling into place, and for that I'm so unbelievably happy. I figure I need to make and save about $1000 more before I'll feel somewhat safe moving to Halifax, and while that sounds like a lot of dough, I should be able to do that as long I don't spend my money frivolously. For the next little while, the larger part of my spending money will go into the apartment rather than buying movies and clothes and whatnot. I have clothes. But I don't have, for instance, a frying pan.

You know, it's really nice to smile freely about this again. It's amazing the effect taking action can have on you.
