Strangely Sleepy

I'm not quite sure why I'm so sleepy today. I'm starting to perk up a little bit , but at 8:00 I was fighting sleep while watching "Friends". Okay, maybe it wasn't that bad, but it was that lightheaded sort of sleepy. Maybe I'm not getting outside enough these days. Today I didn't go out until about 4:45 to go pick up my mom at the bank, and then it was only to hop in the car, drive over, and the little bit of hopping out that was involved in entering the bank and the grocery store. That's clearly not enough fresh air.

Maybe tomorrow I'll make a point of going for a walk. Of course, because that's how luck would have it, I think it's supposed to get bitterly cold again overnight. Lovely. I may make it a short walk. But it's better than nothing.

You know, at one time, my best writing time was once the sun went down. In fact, the later the better. I remember when I used to whip out 15-20 pages no problem of some story I was working on. It was typically during the summers of my childhood that I spent up at my nanny's. I'd just sit at the kitchen table and write.

Now, it's different. I find that once supper is over, it gets increasingly harder to get my brain to work in a creative sort of way. I still tend to think of the night being the best time to write, just because I imagine writers of old sitting at their wooden desks with candles burning low in their holders, the fire crackling, shadows dancing on the walls. I think of Jo in "Little Women" staying up much too late writing, given the fact that she had to be up early in the morning. On a slight sidenote, I always find that that movie inspires me to write. The only problem is that it's a somewhat long-ish film which I always start late, so by the time it's over, even though I WANT to write, I'm much too tired and it's time for bed. I suppose the obvious solution, especially since I'm not currently working, is to watch it during the day. But for one thing, I just feel weird watching movies during the day, and for another, I'm sure some other distraction would come along that I'd have to attend to, and by the time I returned to my desk, the inspiration would be gone.

Ahem. Anyway, I've found, lately, that my most productive writing days (when not working, obviously) are when I start writing before lunchtime. I don't necessarily have to write a whole lot, but a few pages suffice. Then, once lunch is over, I'm more likely to sit down with it again and work for a few more hours. Those are the days that see me writing 10 or more pages.

I suppose I should stop being such a dumbass, and actually start doing that. But of course, life always seems to call me away from it. Oh, I have to do laundry. Oh, I have to sweep and wash the floors. Oh, I have to check the Classifieds for jobs. Oh, I have to go online and send resumés (which of course, leads to unnecessary surfing).

Professional, paid, full-time writers around the globe would be very disappointed with me. I haven't maintained a regular writing schedule.

And yet, here I am, writing to all of you out there who for some reason find my life fascinating enough to visit, instead of spending time editing Book 1 or writing Book 2. Procrastination, gah. I think I may have spent too many years avoiding procrastination while in college and university that it's finally taken hold of me.

Okay. Time to get some work done. If my brain will function, that is.
